Is watching the news always beneficial?

In light of recent events, the media have taken an essential role in today’s society. The broadcast of the latest news is something people are eager to hear about. Nonetheless, is everything that is televised truly vital? Definitely not.

Regardless of when we are watching the news, dangers and hazards are the first things that welcome you into the channel. When a tragedy strikes, TV news, and, more specifically European news, take the lead in order to show the images before anyone else can. It is overwhelming the number of negative events that happen in our everyday life and that, in addition to that, are shown to us every day by the news.

Needless to say, coronavirus has been all over the news since the pandemic started. It is as if no other incidents were happening in the world. A baby has been rescued after three days, not important; a woman has given born to triplets, not interesting; and so forth. Lots of fulfilling examples could be given, yet the news only focuses on the negative aspects of life.

Nowadays, it is as if the elections in the USA were flash news here. Surprisingly, they did not interrupt the transmission of a channel to announce Nevada has finally counted all the votes, or that Trump was not pleased with how things ended. Nevertheless, they have been bombarding us with thousands of details about the American election. From my point of view, I felt as if I was living in America and had the power to take matters into my own hands, vote, and help save the terrible fate America was going into. Nothing farther from the truth. I have nothing to do with America, I am not living there, and, until a few years, I might not even consider going there as an exchange student.

Even though the elections have been the latest news, with time, they will start losing interest and, eventually, they will stop being talked about. However, there is a piece of news that has been with us since march: Covid-19. I find fascinating the number of negative points they can highlight from coronavirus. All day, every day, they broadcast each province, the number of people that passed away or that are infected, the restrictions, and some prospects. As far as I am concerned, we are already surrounded by enough pessimistic things so that when we are trying to relax at home, you can truly relax and not be tense with everything they televised. Rather than speaking about how they have found a successful vaccine, they focus on the fatalistic happenings.

As I said before, thinking about positive prospects might bring a bit of hope in our lives. To recover from this state of being mentally drained, we can start by not watching the news when we try to rest. We have to watch upbeat programs to surround ourselves with beneficial stimuli. In addition to this, we can share our thought, but, instead of giving defeatist opinions, we can change our way of viewing things and give them a more hopeful view. By doing this, we can spread a bit of positivity in this gloomy world.

In conclusion, it might seem as if the world is falling apart by watching the news. In contrast, if we stop watching them and thinking more positively, we will see the world is not as bad as they want to make it look like.
