What effect does music have on us?

Music is an incredible gift we have gotten to exploit and enjoy. It is not difficult to delight ourselves while listening to beautiful melodies. Needless to say, it has a healing effect where we have headaches or when we are feeling down but, are we willing to listen to music we originally do not like for our sake?

Nowadays, types of music is a much debate topic in our society. If you listen to reggaeton, you are illiterate. If you know bands from years ago, you are up to scratch to talk to them. It is a nonsense defining people for their musical taste. Whether you like Green Day or Maluma, you are as much worthy as others. Unfortunately, this way of thinking is something that has to sink in in people’s minds. Many people do not understand how insignificant it is not hanging out with a person just because you don’t share the share likes.

Apart from the judgment, it is undeniable that music has a healing effect on us. From my own experience, whenever I am feeling down, I put on some upbeat songs and immediately I feel better or, if a have an exam or I have to do something out of my comfort zone, I need extra confidence and sassiness so I feel more prepared than ever. It might be a psychological effect but I truly feel like songs help you with whatever you are feeling. Moreover, we are not always feeling down in the dumps. We may be in good spirits and many songs match our energy. Letting loose on your own in your own bedroom is one of the best feelings in the world. Nonetheless, this is not something I have only experienced. All the evidence suggests that depending on what kind of music you listen to, you will have one effect or another. Plus, it is actually recommended that if we have a headache we should listen to relaxing music such as lo-fi beats or indie music that is often calming.

As we have seen, music is like medicine. Although, it not only helps us physically but mentally as well. Lots of artists, such as Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez, write their lyrics to express their feeling. To portray their thoughts through beats and sounds. By showing their own feeling they have not only helped themselves but also people that have listened to the song. A good example of this is Billie Eilish. She is known for changing the concept of music. Her weird, abstract, and in a sense spooky music videos, showed the world that if others were doing basic music videos is because they were not thinking outside the box. They were sticking to everything they knew rather than creating new experiences. However, this is just a shallow part of the meaning behind her videos. Her lyrics have a hidden depth that by reading them and interpreting what is written you can guess what she wanted to get at. What is more, not only she writes these songs for the world to listen to them but also for her as a relief valve and to let the bad vibes flow with the lyrics.

What makes music so special is the fact that we can see ourselves portrayed in many songs. We identify ourselves with the lyrics and it might be the case where the song does not talk about your case in particular but you feel as if it was it. You can understand the lyrics the way you want to. If you want to imagine you are in America driving a car in an enormous driveway and a song reminds you of that feeling, let it be. No one is going to judge us for dreaming and letting our imagination run free.

In conclusion, music is something special we have to appreciate. It helps us mentally, to relax, or to transport ourselves to another dimension and physically when we have some kind of pain. We should enjoy the music we have available not minding what other people say. We have to enjoy our little moments of happiness.
