The situation with semi-bilingual parents

Semi-bilingual parents is a much debated issue in today’s society. Teaching their children languages since birth will have advantages and disadvantages. For this reason, some points will be shown in this essay to prove whether parents should instill in their kids the love for languages.

To begin with, as you are making your offspring learn different topics, he will have an easier time picking things up in school and it will be an incredible upside in the future in case he decides to learn another language because of the fact that his brain has adapted to learning new things and it has developed in a different way than monolingual kids. Moreover, in case he decides to learn a third language, when being hired by an enterprise, employers will be amazed at how prepared he is and he will be a good addition to any corporation. 

On the contrary, parents have a complicated task ahead of them. Both should plan beforehand how they are going to teach their kid two languages. They might give for granted vocabulary or grammar from their language and, instead of the children learning the structure, he will start mixing concepts and he will not be able to learn it correctly. Furthermore, not everyone is a valid teacher and, in case the kid does something wrong, they might be too hard on him and they will discourage their son and, maybe, he will become self-conscious.

Lastly, parents should do a self-assessment and analyze if their knowledge of the language is accurate and if they are fluent in it. Otherwise, they will only confuse their child and make him make mistakes that wouldn’t happen if being shown in school. Apart from this, they should plan when they are going to start teaching the languages to the kid and when they are going to stop doing it. It is essential to be on the same page before they start doing it. Taking care of a baby is hard enough so, if some issues could be discussed before the birth, it is best to talk about it. 

In conclusion, making your children learn two languages is up to the parents. They should consider the positive and negative aspects and also analyze if they are qualified enough to do the role of a teacher.
