Animals at home

From my point of view, there is a part of the brain that is only triggered and developed when you live with a domestic animal. It is a feeling that can not be explained but it makes you have a soft spot for all kinds of animals. Whether it is a goat, a sheep, a cat, a dog you will try to take care of them and not let anyone hurt them. Living with an animal will change completely your view of life.

What kind of animals should be allowed to live in houses? It is a really touchy issue since depending on who you ask these questions there will be lots of different answers. Animal defenders will claim animals should not be trapped in houses and, in case they are, they should have an enormous place to wander around so that they do not feel trapped in a place. Unfortunately, other people will say it should not care about what the animals might be feeling. So, if you do not feel like feeding them, they do not. It is heartbreaking seeing how so many people treat animals in certain ways. Finally, there is another kind of people that are the most balanced ones that depending on the animal they will have one need or another. Not all animals are the same and, personally, I consider the best option is to ask someone qualified and experienced in animals. Therefore, as professionals say, broadly speaking, cats, dogs, ferrets, and birds can be at home. Needless to say, not all cats, dogs, etc are the same. Consequently, we should be informed beforehand if we will be able to give the animal the best life.

I own three animals. I have a Siberian cat named Pushkin and two turtles. Throughout my life, I have always lived with birds since they were the only animals my father would let us have. Birds are not really affectionate. It is as I have mentioned before, all animals are different but, from the five birds I have had, they are not the best company. Nonetheless, I like, overall, parrots and, as we have enough place they could fly around the flat. The problem is we had two Australian parakeets when my cat arrived and, rather than befriending them, her natural instinct stroke in and she just wanted to hunt them. In the end, my cat brought down the bird’s cage and they escaped through the window. Since then we have not had any more birds. Apart from the cat and birds, I have had two turtles for nine years. If it wasn’t because I know we have them, I would not even notice them. They do not make a noise and the only things that they do are eat and swim.

Unfortunately, the loss of an animal is something we know we have coming since we welcome a new animal into the family. I have never experienced a more heartbreaking experience in my life. In September of 2019, we adopted a British shorthair cat named Panzurra. She was a lovely cat: she wouldn’t scratch the sofas, she would pee and do her needs where she had to and she just wanted cuddles. The trouble came when we went to do the first check-up. Nothing too serious although we have to give her medicine for her to get better. Then, two months later, on 28th November, she passed away out of nowhere. In such a short time, you get to love a cat so much and without a warning, she is ripped away from your life. Death is extremely painful in any kind of human being.

After everything, Pushkin is still with us after three years. It is unbelievable how much she has added to our lives. The idea of getting a cat came when we visited a hotel in Rusia and they had two cats in there. The cats would enter your room and would just lay with you in bed. Since that day, I was every single day telling my father we had to get a cat so that when my sister got married, I wouldn’t feel alone. I was since August insisting and, in November, she finally arrived home. All the love and affection she has given us is priceless.

In conclusion, an animal at home is the best thing in the world. You have to see if the animal can adapt to your house and, if that is the case, do not hesitate to adopt a cat, dog, ferret… A person will never experience the feeling they get when they are with an animal. Their life is unconditional and they will always be there for you in a way or another.
